Ambassadors: Making Artists Feel at Home
Imagine setting up shop in a new town – where you don’t know the best place to grab a bite, the layout of the town, or even how to get to your hotel from your “office.”
This is what Arts Fest Sidewalk Sale artists deal with every day. Artists are in a new town, working 10 hours per day in often steamy Central Pennsylvania weather, and often come alone. It can be rather daunting to be in such unfamiliar surroundings.
Enter the Arts Festival Ambassadors! This friendly team of volunteers walk the Sidewalk Sale route in pairs helping out artists – answering questions, providing a much-needed break, delivering important Festival news, and so much more.
Many Ambassadors volunteer year after year (and sometimes request the same shift each year!) and can’t imagine a better Festival experience. It’s a great way to see all the Sidewalk Sale booths and meet incredibly interesting artist from all over the country.
Artists rave about this program, saying it contributes to the incredibly friendly Arts Fest atmosphere. Returning artists know all about the Artist Embassy, also known as Ambassador Central (our version of the U.N.!), located near the entrance to Schlow Centre Region Library.
Two hour shifts are available Thursday through Sunday during Sidewalk Sale hours. Sign up with a friend for twice the fun. Walking is required so come prepared with comfy walking shoes and a cool drink for the warm State College summer weather.
